I am on a mission to help people with the technical details of their websites and blogs. Computers have evolved considerably since 1978 when I first became involved with them. They are much more user-friendly today. That is, as long as things work correctly. When they don’t, that’s when most people are quickly out of their depth and need competent help. Besides, most people would rather be running their business than messing with their website!
The average computer geek prefers dealing with computers rather than people, especially non-technical people. I know because I used to be that way. I couldn’t imagine why the workings of computers weren’t as obvious to everybody else as they were to me.
Then, it dawned on me that most people simply aren’t geeks! Duh! How many people do you know who know how their car works? Fewer today than in the past because most cars are computers on wheels. Even without the electronics, basic automobile technology is beyond the average person. And that’s okay. All they want is to get in, turn the key, and drive to their destination. They don’t care about what’s going on under the hood. It’s completely irrelevant.
That’s why there are mechanics. To figure out why things don’t work and make them work correctly. The same thing applies to computers and by extension websites. People don’t want to have to know how it all works, they just want things to work. So, there’s a need for website mechanics. That would be me.
What I’ve learned in my years in the business is how to communicate effectively with clients on all technical levels. I’m very good at translating Geek to English. I may tell you more than you really want to know, but if you want it explained, I can do it in such a way that you’ll understand it as much as you want to.
